Hi, I think you have 2 questions?!

1.) counter scripts:
Look at the following CGI resource sites for counter scripts (and other):

or use my graphic counter if you like:

The graphic counter scripts often use an additional program to
create the GIF images on the fly. This program is freeware and
packaged with the above counter in the windows version.

Surf for the original resource to

2.) Image editing tools:
I recommend to use Ulead Image Pals2Go (Shareware)
or Paint Shop Pro 4.0 (Shareware) for image manipulations.

A good point to find lots of sets of counter digits is
http://www.digitmania.holowww.com or to use a search engine
and look for "counter AND digits".

To make Gif's transparent/animated (GIF89A) I recommend GIF Construction Set
(Shareware, load down from http://www.mindworkshop.com). This program has
also a script language and I build a 2nd graphic counter script with it.

Hope you find what you need under one of the above links.
